Proposed Flood Map Reflects Changes to Clay County Flood Risk, Insurance Rates - 90-Day Appeal Period for Filing Appeals and Comments Begins August 9

DENVER — Clay County’s flood insurance rate map update is nearing completion. The new maps will provide Clay County with more accurate flood risk information that can help local officials and residents make informed decisions about reducing flood risks and purchasing flood insurance.

The mapping project is part of a nationwide effort led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to increase local knowledge of flood risks and support actions to address and reduce those risks.

FEMA and the FCC Remind the Public About Upcoming Test Alert on TVs and Radios

WASHINGTON— FEMA, in coordination with the FCC, reminds the public that it will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019. The nationwide test message will be sent to radio and television stations beginning at 2:20 p.m. EDT.

Apply for Disaster Unemployment Benefits by August 9 Deadline

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri residents who lost jobs or whose work was interrupted during this year’s flooding can apply for up to 26 weeks of Disaster Unemployment Assistance from the state. The deadline is August 9.

Four Oklahoma Counties Added to Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance Funding

OKLAHOMA CITY – Four more counties in Oklahoma are now eligible to apply for FEMA’s Public Assistance funding to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas that sustained damage from the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding between May 7 and June 9, 2019.

FEMA Works With U.S. Small Business Administration to Assist Missouri Residents

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri residents may receive disaster assistance from both FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

 

After registering with FEMA, most residents are automatically referred to SBA to be considered for low-interest disaster loans. SBA’s disaster loans are the largest source of long-term federal disaster recovery funds to residents, businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations.

Crisis Counseling Available for South Dakotans

PIERRE, S.D. – Crisis counseling is available to help South Dakotans in areas impacted by the flooding this year.

A $320,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to the State of South Dakota is funding the crisis counseling effort. Residents who are experiencing stress as a result of the disaster can call 800-691-4336 24 hours a day. The hotline will connect them with specialists who can offer stress relief and behavioral health counseling.
