Ten Months After Michael: Public Assistance Grants Flowing; Federal Aid for Panhandle at $1.3B

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — As the recovery from Hurricane Michael passes the 10-month mark, nearly $238 million in grants have been obligated by FEMA through its Public Assistance program to reimburse the State of Florida and local governments for debris removal, emergency protective measure costs and other projects.

Two Weeks Left to FEMA Deadline

COLUMBUS, Ohio –Tuesday, September 3 is the deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance from FEMA or for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). If you live in one of the 11 designated counties and you sustained damage or were displaced by the Memorial Day weekend tornadoes, storms and flooding, the window of opportunity to access federal disaster assistance is steadily closing.

Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Dawson County

Lincoln, NE – The State of Nebraska and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center Tuesday, Aug. 20, in Dawson County. Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide information on available services, explain assistance programs and help survivors complete or check the status of their applications at the center.

President Donald J. Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for New Hampshire

WASHINGTON – FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of New Hampshire to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe storm and flooding on July 11-12, 2019.

Federal funding is available to the state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storm and flooding in Grafton County.

How to File an Appeal for the New Incident Period

If you have already registered with FEMA for disaster related damage that occurred between March 9, 2019, and April 1, 2019, AND your home received additional uninsured damage through July 14, 2019, you may be eligible for additional assistance. You do not need to reapply. Please submit an appeal letter to FEMA requesting reassessment.

FACT SHEET: Frequently Asked Questions About FEMA Rental Assistance

Twenty-six counties were designated for FEMA Individual Assistance for the April 29–July 5 storms, tornadoes and flooding. You are encouraged to register with FEMA if you live in one of the 26 counties: Andrew, Atchison, Boone, Buchanan, Callaway, Carroll, Chariton, Cole, Greene, Holt, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lewis, Lincoln, Livingston, McDonald, Miller, Newton, Osage, Pike, Platte, Pulaski, St. Charles and Saline.

The deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 9.

$19 Million Approved to Acquire Flood-prone North Carolina Properties, Minimize Disaster Damage

DURHAM, N.C. — The State of North Carolina and FEMA are approving nearly $19 million to eliminate flood risks at certain repetitively damaged properties in North Carolina following Hurricane Florence.

Additional Flood Assistance May Be Available for Nebraskans

LINCOLN, NE - At the request of Gov. Pete Ricketts, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended the incident period in which disaster-caused damage may be covered. The presidential disaster declaration, issued March 21,2019, originally covered the period from March 9 to April 1. With the extension, additional uninsured damage sustained through July 14 may now be eligible for FEMA assistance and U.S.
