Lincoln, NE – The State of Nebraska and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Buffalo County. Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide information on available services, explain assistance programs and help survivors complete or check the status of their applications at the center.

BOTHELL, Wash. - Forty youth in grades 8 through 12 representing Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska completed a Youth Preparedness Camp in Stanwood, Wash. today. ORLANDO, Fla. – The City of Jacksonville will receive a nearly $1.4 million federal grant to install a back-up generator at its pre-trial detention center that will keep electricity on during a power outage.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) has approved $1,370,895 to equip the John E. Goode Pre-trial Detention Center on E. Adams St. with a permanent 1,250 kilowatt back-up generator, and accompanying electrical equipment.

On March 21, 2019, the president granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Nebraska triggering the release of federal funds to help people and communities recover from a Severe Winter Storm, Straight-line Winds and Flooding.

To streamline the process for applicants who have uninsured damage from the March storms, FEMA has updated the process for survivors who need to register for disaster assistance.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California wildfire survivors from across the state affected by last year’s Camp, Hill and Woolsey fires may still be looking for assistance for various unmet needs. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri residents with damage from the April 29-July 5 storms and flooding who haven’t yet registered for disaster assistance need to do so before the September 9 deadline.

ATLANTA – Issaquena, Sharkey, Warren and Yazoo counties in Mississippi are now eligible to receive federal funding under FEMA’s Public Assistance program to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides from Feb. 22 – March 29, 2019.

All designated counties could receive federal funding on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities and infrastructure.

AUSTIN, Texas — Galveston has begun replacing hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of sand that were eroded from its beaches during Hurricane Harvey, working to make the city safer from future storms and bolster its tourism industry.

FEMA’s Public Assistance program is providing 90% of the funding for three Galveston beach restoration projects whose combined cost exceeds $14.8 million. FEMA’s share is over $13.3 million.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FEMA has approved $2,763,049 to the State of Florida to assist 21 eligible applicants with reimbursement for eligible costs of debris removal, emergency protective measures, management costs and permanent repairs for Hurricane Michael under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

When Hurricane Harvey struck the Gulf Coast two years ago, it brought prolonged rain and flooding to much of southeast Texas. After the storm, about 92,000 Texans received flood insurance payouts for an estimated $8.92 billion.
