FEMA, Federal Agencies Ready as Hurricane Dorian Heads to Florida

WASHINGTON – Hurricane Dorian continues to gain strength and could be a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall somewhere along Florida’s eastern shore sometime early next week.  As FEMA and other federal partners work with officials in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to assess any damages caused by Dorian, residents in Florida and southern Georgia should take actions now to prepare for this powerful hurricane.

FEMA Approves $1,234,894 to City of Lynn for Seaport Landing Marina

FEMA Individual Assistance deadline is less than three weeks away

AUSTIN, Texas – South Texas survivors only have three weeks left to register for FEMA assistance to receive grants that help with housing repairs and rebuilding as well as other needs. The final day to register is Sept. 16.

WYOMING FEMA INTEGRATION TEAM BEGINS PARTNERSHIP

DENVER – The State of Wyoming Office of Homeland Security recently welcomed the first member of its Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Integration Team (FIT). FITs enhance intergovernmental coordination by co-locating FEMA personnel with their state counterparts.

The Wyoming FIT will allow the state’s emergency management services to have an in-house communication channel with FEMA Region VIII in Denver.

FEMA, Federal Agencies Supporting First Responders in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

WASHINGTON – Hurricane Dorian continues its path through the Caribbean, moving near St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and then over the open Atlantic toward the Continental U.S. The National Hurricane Center issued hurricane warnings for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Culebra and Vieques, and the storm is expected to produce heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

FEMA Reimburses Department of Corrections $6.4 Million for Hurricane Michael Expenses

WASHINGTON - Yesterday, Acting FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor kicked off National Preparedness Month on television and radio. With Tropical Storm Dorian in the Atlantic and forecasted to impact Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and potentially Florida and Georgia, he emphasized the importance of preparing now. Gaynor also stressed the importance of empowering our kids to be able to take action if they are separated from their families in times of disaster. They need to be prepared, not scared. Gaynor stated, “Imagine that your child is alone without your direction.

Preliminary Digital Flood Hazard Maps for Lee County Are Ready for Public Viewing

ATLANTA - Residents and property owners in coastal areas of Lee County can view new draft preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) at three upcoming public open houses
on Sept. 10-11.

FIRMs show the potential extent and risks of flooding. They will be used to determine flood insurance premiums and building requirements.

FEMA Awards Collier County Nearly $1.3 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses

ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $1,272,871 for the State of Florida to help Collier County defray the costs of waterway debris removal for Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

FEMA funds will reimburse the county for the collection, reduction, disposal and site management of debris from waterways in Collier County between Oct. 18, 2017 and March 10, 2018 following the September 2017 storm. During that time period, a contractor for the county gathered, hauled away and disposed of 10,233 cubic yards of debris from canals and ditches.

FEMA Awards Melbourne Nearly $3 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses

Orlando, Fla. – FEMA has approved $2,993,890 for the State of Florida to help the City of Melbourne defray the costs of responding to Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

FEMA funds will reimburse the city for the cost of overtime worked by police, firefighters, road crews and other city employees to set up and operate an emergency operations center, clear debris from roadways, and evacuate people between Sept. 4 and Oct. 3, 2017.

Missouri Schools Build Safe Rooms for Shelter from Tornadoes

FEMA Urges Puerto Rico Residents to Finish Preparations Ahead of Tropical Storm Dorian

WASHINGTON – As Tropical Storm Dorian approaches, FEMA urges people in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to listen to government officials on the islands and complete final preparations now.
