Acting FEMA Administrator and Puerto Rico Governor Meet to Discuss the Island’s Recovery
GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – As part of his three-day visit to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Acting FEMA Administrator Pete Gaynor met with Governor Wanda Vázquez-Garced and other government officials today to discuss the island’s recovery.
FEMA awards $8.9 million to Brazoria County to elevate 70 flood-prone homes
AUSTIN, Texas – FEMA has awarded more than $8.9 million to Brazoria County, through the Texas Division of Emergency Management, to fund the elevation of 70 flood-prone homes as part of FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).
Federal grant funding will provide 75% of the cost of this project, and a local match will provide 25%.

FEMA and COR3 Obligate Over $44 Million to the University of Puerto Rico

Preliminary Digital Flood Hazard Maps for Charlotte County Are Ready for Public Viewing

ATLANTA - Residents and property owners in coastal areas of Charlotte County can view new draft preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) at three upcoming public open houses on Dec. 11-12.
FIRMs show the potential extent and risks of flooding. They will be used to determine flood insurance premiums and building requirements.
FEMA Offers Free Rebuilding Tips at Local Home Improvement Stores
AUSTIN, Texas – Disaster survivors affected by the severe storms and floods from Tropical Storm Imelda, can visit local home improvement stores in Cypress, Houston, Pasadena and Orange from Monday, Dec. 2, to Saturday, Dec. 7, for rebuilding tips from mitigation experts. Mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be on hand to answer questions about home repair, making disaster plans, putting together supply kits and the importance of flood insurance.
State/FEMA Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Yankton
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The State of South Dakota and FEMA have opened a disaster recovery center in Yankton to offer face-to-face support to individuals and businesses impacted by the tornadoes, severe storms and flooding from September 9-26. FACT SHEET: “Substantial Damage” – What Does it Mean?
For communities that participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), substantial damage determinations are required by local floodplain-management ordinances. These rules must be in place for residents of a community to purchase flood insurance through the NFIP.

ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $1,516,368 for the State of Florida to help Osceola County defray the costs of repairing county facilities damaged by Hurricane Irma. Funds are provided under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA Awards Florida Division of Emergency Management More Than $4.4 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $4,429,872 for the State of Florida to help the Florida Division of Emergency Management defray administrative costs associated with Hurricane Irma recovery under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA funds will reimburse the Florida Division of Emergency Management for administrative costs related to managing FEMA PA programs and projects. This amount is five percent of the total dollar value of all eligible project costs prior to insurance and cost share reductions.
FEMA Awards Florida Department of Health Nearly $18.7 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $18,666,746 for the State of Florida to help the Florida Department of Health defray the costs of responding to Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA Awards Lee County Nearly $11.8 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $11,774,472 for the State of Florida to help Lee County defray the costs of debris removal for Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA funds will reimburse Lee County for the collection, reduction and disposal of debris between Sept. 18 and Oct. 17, 2017 following the September 2017 storm. During that time period, county workers and contractors gathered and hauled away 549,538 cubic yards of vegetative, construction and demolition debris from roads and public property for landfill disposal.
FEMA Awards City of Bartow Nearly $2.7 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $2,664,900 for the State of Florida to help the City of Bartow defray the costs of restoring electrical service following Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
