FEMA Grants $20M to California to Increase Earthquake Protection

Oakland, Calif. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted $20 million to the State of California for its Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) program. The grant will subsidize the work of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) for earthquake retrofits on more than 6,300 at-risk structures likely to shake from their foundations in the event of an earthquake.

FEMA and COR3 Obligate an Additional $2.7 Million for Recovery Work in Puerto Rico

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – FEMA and the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience, or COR3, have obligated over $2.7 million in additional funds for 22 projects related to the recovery and reconstruction of Puerto Rico. These funds were obligated between January 3 and January 9.

Statement Regarding FEMAs Emergency Declaration $5 Million Cap

In practice, the $5 million “cap” on an EM declaration limit is not a hard limit, and provides a requirement that FEMA notify Congress when an emergency goes above $5 million. In order for the cap to be exceeded, the President must determine that: continued emergency assistance is immediately required; there is a continuing and immediate risk to lives, property, public health or safety; and necessary assistance will not otherwise be provided on a timely basis.

DENTON, Texas –– New floodplain maps become effective on June 19, 2020, for the City of Terrell Hills and multiple well-defined, distinct areas of the City of San Antonio within Bexar County, TX. As the local cooperating technical partner, the San Antonio River Authority developed the new floodplain maps together with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Residents are encouraged to examine the maps to determine if they are now in either a low-to-moderate or special flood hazard area, defined as a high-risk flood zone.

FEMA Registration Deadline Extended

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The deadline to register with FEMA for disaster assistance after the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from Sept. 9-26 has been extended to January 31, 2020.

Federal disaster assistance for individuals and families can include money for rental assistance, essential home repairs, clean up expense, personal property loss and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.
 
Disaster Recovery Centers in these locations will close on Friday, January 17, 2020

FACT SHEET: Residents Working toward Permanent Housing Solutions

FEMA, the state, local officials and nonprofit organizations continue to work with hundreds of households displaced from their homes after Hurricane Michael. FEMA is currently providing temporary housing units for about 500 families. FEMA and its partners have helped more than 400 families achieve a more permanent housing solution.

Additional Counties Eligible for Public Assistance Funding in Mississippi

ATLANTA – Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Oktibbeha counties are now eligible to apply for funding under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas that sustained damage from severe storms, straight-line winds, and flooding that occurred Oct. 26, 2019.

The president’s Dec. 6, 2019 major disaster declaration for Mississippi included Alcorn, Covington, Itawamba, Jasper, Jefferson Davis, Leake, Lee, Marion, Neshoba, Newton, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Scott, Simpson, Smith, and Tippah counties.

Disaster Recovery Center Opens Friday in Aurora County

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The State of South Dakota and FEMA will open a disaster recovery center in Plankinton to offer face-to-face support to individuals and businesses impacted by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from September 9-26. The center will be open for one week at:

Aurora County Courthouse Basement
401 N. Main Street
Plankinton, S.D.

Center will be open Friday, Jan. 10 – Saturday, Jan. 18 (Closed Sunday)
Hours of Operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The State of South Dakota and the Federal Emergency Management Agency encourage everyone with damage from the September 9-26, 2019 severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding to register for federal disaster assistance.

Many people who cleaned up flood damage and repaired flood-damaged property in the days following the storms don’t realize they may be eligible for reimbursement.  It is important to let FEMA determine eligibility.
