AUSTIN, Texas – Disaster survivors affected by the severe storms and floods from Tropical Storm Imelda, can visit local home improvement stores in Houston and Pasadena from Monday, Nov. 25, to Saturday, Nov. 30, for rebuilding tips from mitigation experts. Mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be on hand to answer questions about home repair, making disaster plans, putting together supply kits and the importance of flood insurance.

AUSTIN, Texas – Maddie and Charles Peddycoart know more about the costs associated with flood recovery than most. In the 19 years they’ve lived in their home in Hamshire, TX — about 60 miles east of Houston and 27 miles southwest of Beaumont — it has been flooded by storms four times:  Hurricanes Rita (2005), Ike (2008), Harvey (2017) and Tropical Storm Imelda (2019). Rita and Ike left about 2 inches of water at the ground level of their home; they recovered quickly.

The State of West Virginia will receive $52,304,385.75 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the replacement of Herbert Hoover High School, which was damaged as a result of FEMA-DR-4273-WV (Severe Storms, Flooding, Landslides and Mudslides).

PIERRE, SD – Residents of 11 South Dakota counties and two reservations may now register with FEMA. Registration opens the door to a number of federal disaster assistance programs, as well as referrals to other forms of aid.

Residents who suffered damage from the tornadoes, severe storms or flooding in Brookings, Charles Mix, Davison, Hanson, Hutchinson, Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, Moody, Yankton counties and the Flandreau and Yankton Indian Reservations are eligible to register.

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands – Utilizing FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding the V.I. Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) recently provided its Division of Building Permits staff a chance to strengthen their knowledge during a four-day International Code Council (ICC) Building Inspector Academy.

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – FEMA has awarded over $3.7 million in additional funds to Coamo and Salinas municipalities to cover costs related to Hurricane María.

These awards bring the amount of funds obligated under FEMA’s Public Assistance program to nearly $6 billion.
