Following is a summary of key federal disaster aid programs that can be made available as needed and warranted under President Donald J. Trump‘s emergency disaster declaration issued for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

President Donald J. Trump Signs Emergency Declaration for Puerto Rico
WASHINGTON — FEMA announced that federal emergency aid has been made available to the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to supplement Commonwealth and local response efforts to the emergency conditions in the area affected by Tropical Storm Dorian beginning on August 26, 2019, and continuing.
FEMA Urges Puerto Rico Residents to Finish Preparations Ahead of Tropical Storm Dorian
WASHINGTON – As Tropical Storm Dorian approaches, FEMA urges people in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to listen to government officials on the islands and complete final preparations now.
Dorian is forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds to communities in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands still working to recover from hurricanes Irma and Maria. Residents should take this storm seriously as even smaller and less severe storms could have significant impacts.

President Donald J. Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Wisconsin
WASHINGTON – FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Wisconsin to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding from July 18-20, 2019.
FEMA Urges Puerto Rico Residents to Finish Preparations Ahead of Tropical Storm Dorian

President Donald J. Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for Louisiana
WASHINGTON – FEMA announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Louisiana to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Barry from July 10-15, 2019.
FEMA’s Public Assistance funding is available to the state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Hurricane Barry in Allen, Iberia, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Mary, Terrebonne, and Vermillion parishes.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – If you sustained losses during the Memorial Day weekend tornadoes and storms, and you live in one of the designated counties – Montgomery, Greene, Mercer, Miami, Perry, Muskingum, Pickaway, Mahoning, Auglaize, Hocking and Darke – you can still seek eligibility for federal disaster assistance by registering with FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
But you’ll have to move fast. Registration closes at midnight, local time, September 3rd.

FEMA Offers Free Repair, Rebuild Information Sessions at Local Stores
LINCOLN, Neb. — As Nebraskans repair or rebuild their homes damaged by storms and flooding, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and local hardware and home improvement stores have teamed up to provide free information, tips and literature on making homes stronger and safer.
FEMA Reimburses Mexico Beach More Than $1M for Hurricane Michael Expenses
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FEMA has approved $1,047,580 to the state of Florida to assist the City of Mexico Beach with reimbursement for the costs of repairs to public utilities following Hurricane Michael under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA funds will reimburse the city for restoring its master wastewater lift station back to its pre-disaster design, function and capacity following the October 2018 storm.
FEMA Grants San Diego County $2.7 Million to Keep Water Clean and Running for 60,000 Residents After an Earthquake
Oakland, Calif. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted $2.7 million to earthquake retrofit two critical water tanks at the R.E. Badger Water Filtration Plant in San Diego County. Completion of the project will ensure as many as 60,000 residents in the Santa Fe Irrigation District and San Dieguito Water District receive filtered, potable, and uninterrupted water following a major earthquake.
FEMA Reimburses Callaway Nearly $5.3M for Hurricane Michael Expenses
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FEMA has approved $5,286,507 to the state of Florida to assist the City of Callaway with reimbursement for the costs of debris removal following Hurricane Michael under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA funds will reimburse the city for the collection, reduction, disposal and site management of debris within the city from Nov. 25, 2018 through Feb. 23, 2019.
FEMA Teams in Cole County August 29-September 3 to Share Repair, Rebuilding Advice
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – FEMA’s mitigation experts will be visiting Jefferson City in Cole County August 29-September 3 to offer home-improvement tips on rebuilding better and stronger after this year’s severe storms in Missouri.
The teams will also share proven methods to prevent or reduce damage from a disaster. Most of the information and free publications are aimed at general contractors and those willing to take on do-it-yourself projects.
FEMA grants $119 million to the City of Houston for emergency protective measures during and after Hurricane Harvey
AUSTIN, Texas – In the two years since Hurricane Harvey made landfall, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded more than $119 million to the City of Houston for emergency protective measures taken after Hurricane Harvey’s landfall.
Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Buffalo County
Lincoln, NE – The State of Nebraska and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center Tuesday, Aug. 27, in Buffalo County. Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide information on available services, explain assistance programs and help survivors complete or check the status of their applications at the center.

40 FEMA Region 10 Youth Build Culture of Preparedness at Summer Camp
BOTHELL, Wash. - Forty youth in grades 8 through 12 representing Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska completed a Youth Preparedness Camp in Stanwood, Wash. today. This engaging and empowering event served as a way for teens to learn about and practice emergency preparedness. They participated in a variety of exciting leadership and team-building opportunities and traditional camp activities while having fun and making new friends.
FEMA Awards City of Jacksonville Nearly $1.4 Million To Install Back-up Generator at Pre-trial Detention Center
ORLANDO, Fla. – The City of Jacksonville will receive a nearly $1.4 million federal grant to install a back-up generator at its pre-trial detention center that will keep electricity on during a power outage.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) has approved $1,370,895 to equip the John E. Goode Pre-trial Detention Center on E. Adams St. with a permanent 1,250 kilowatt back-up generator, and accompanying electrical equipment.
