With an increased charitable and federal presence, scam artists and identity thieves may attempt to take advantage of survivors.

AUSTIN, Texas — National Preparedness Month kicks off in September with a week dedicated to helping people learn to “save early for disaster costs.”

Orlando, Fla. – FEMA is awarding Polk County a $1,130,812.50 Hazard Mitigation grant to fund the purchase and installation of a 1,750 kW generator with 6,000-gallon fuel tank at the Polk Central County Jail. 

After the installation of the generator, Polk County will be able to continue regular operation of the jail in times of disaster and during future power outages. Funding for this HMGP project is authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Act, helping strengthen communities by improving buildings, facilities and infrastructure that people use every day.

PHILADELPHIA – Join the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for a public meeting on the Draft Environmental Assessment for the reconstruction of Herbert Hoover High School. The meeting will be held September 18, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elkview Middle School, located at 5090 Elk River Rd, Elkview, WV 25071.

The recovery work being done after the Camp Fire is enormous. It is also very complicated due to the magnitude of the devastation. These complications, in turn, create misconceptions that can be spread through the news and social media, making it difficult to separate myth from fact. In an effort to minimize survivors’ confusion and frustration, FEMA is issuing this Fact Sheet.

MYTH: Survivors can sublet their FEMA housing unit to another tenant once they find permanent housing.

WASHINGTON – As Hurricane Dorian continues up the East Coast, FEMA urges those in the storm’s path to be alert to the risks of storm surge and flooding. As evacuation orders are being lifted, FEMA warns residents to use caution when they return home.

Oakland, Calif. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) granted $1.3 million to La Mesa, California for storm drain improvements that increase flood protection for area residents.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – More than $60 million in federal grants, loans and insurance payments have now gone to Missourians to assist in the recovery from this spring and summer’s flooding and tornadoes.

The funds include grants to households from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, payments from the National Flood Insurance Program on insurance claims and low-interest disaster recovery loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FEMA has approved a $9,842,926 grant to the state of Florida that will reimburse the Florida Department of Transportation (DOT) for the costs of debris removal in Jackson County following Hurricane Michael under FEMA’s Public Assistance program.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – FEMA has approved $15,709,682 to the state of Florida to assist the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) with reimbursement for management costs following Hurricane Michael in October 2018 under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

AUSTIN, Texas – Less than two weeks remain for South Texas survivors to register for FEMA assistance for grants to help with housing repairs and rebuilding as well as other needs. The final day to register is Sept. 16.
