FEMA Funds Help Create Greater Awareness of Seismic Activity in Big Sky Country
Western Montana has a history of large damaging earthquakes, and it remains seismically active. Many of these earthquakes occur along faults that do not extend to the Earth's surface and are thus unmapped and unknown. Thanks to a new program developed in Montana with the assistance of funding from FEMA, area residents will now have a greater understanding of the threat earthquakes pose.
Network of support “upgrades” La Grange man’s destroyed home
AUSTIN, Texas — Billy Capers’ mobile home in La Grange was completely submerged by Hurricane Harvey’s floodwaters in 2017.
“The first time they let us back to the house, it was just goop,” said Billy’s mother, Sharon Kramer. “You could tell it had been totally up to the ceiling.”
Thursday is Last Day to Visit FEMA/MEMA Disaster Recovery Centers
JACKSON, Miss. – Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Vicksburg and Columbus will close permanently at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, but survivors will still be able to get the help they need online or on the phone. The DRCs have been operated jointly by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
FEMA Grants Funds to Increase Flood Protection in South San Francisco
Oakland, Calif. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) granted $3 million to San Mateo County to improve the Colma Creek Flood Control Channel. Upgrades will protect the City of South San Francisco from tributary flooding, mitigate the effects of sea level rise beyond the year 2060, and double the channel’s level of flood protection to 100-year events.
Federal Disaster Assistance for Texas Renters, Too
AUSTIN, Texas – Renters in Texas counties whose homes and property were damaged during Tropical Storm Imelda may be eligible for federal disaster assistance.
Aid is available to residents of Chambers, Harris, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery, Orange and San Jacinto counties, who incurred losses from Sept. 17-23.
FEMA Issues Public Notice
ATLANTA – A public notice is now available that addresses the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s intention to reimburse eligible applicants for costs to repair or replace public facilities damaged by Hurricane Dorian under disaster declaration DR-4464-SC.
Help Still Available as Community Recovery Centers Close
GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – As long-term recovery continues, Community Recovery Centers, known as CRCs, will begin closing starting Oct. 31, 2019.
FEMA Offers Free Rebuilding Tips at Local Home Improvement Stores
AUSTIN, Texas – Disaster survivors affected by the severe storms and floods from Tropical Storm Imelda on Sept. 17-23, can visit local home improvement stores in Dayton and Nederland to get rebuilding tips from mitigation experts. Mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be on hand to answer questions about home repair, making disaster plans, putting together supply kits and the importance of flood insurance.
Disaster Assistance Applicants Determined Ineligible Can Appeal to FEMA
JACKSON, Miss. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is doing its best to see that every Mississippi storm and flood survivor receives every dollar of assistance for which they are eligible. If you do not agree with FEMA, you can file an appeal.
An appeal is a written request to have to your FEMA eligibility determination reviewed. Your appeal may concern the amount and type of assistance provided to you, your eligibility for disaster assistance, or your need for continuing support.
Disaster Recovery Center Opening in Liberty County
AUSTIN, Texas – A Disaster Recovery Center will open Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Liberty County to help disaster survivors affected by Tropical Storm Imelda.
Recovery specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration, state and federal agencies will be at the center to answer questions about disaster assistance and low-interest disaster loans. They can also help survivors apply for federal disaster assistance.
FEMA Fire Management Assistance Granted for Getty Fire

San Jacinto Added to Disaster Declaration for Tropical Storm Imelda
AUSTIN, Texas – San Jacinto County has been designated for disaster assistance as part of Texas’s federal disaster declaration for severe storms and flooding that occurred Sept. 17-23. Survivors of Tropical Storm Imelda may now register for assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
FEMA Awards Jacksonville Electric Authority Nearly $3 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $2,933,281 for the State of Florida to help the Jacksonville Electric Authority defray the costs of responding to Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA funds will reimburse JEA for emergency measures enacted between Sept. 4 and Oct. 3, 2017. During that time period, JEA and contractors provided emergency pumping for wastewater lift stations, power restoration and repair, emergency generator placement and monitoring and emergency lighting throughout JEA’s service area.

ORLANDO, Fla. - FEMA has approved $33,583,976 for the State of Florida to help numerous south Florida communities defray the costs of responding to, cleaning up from, and repairing damage from Hurricane Irma under FEMA's Public Assistance Program.

Disaster Survivors are Urged to Keep in Touch with FEMA
JACKSON, Miss. — Following any disaster, registering with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is an important first step. Keeping your contact information current may be just as important.
That is the message federal and state officials in Mississippi are stressing to residents affected by last February’s severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding. Survivors need to stay in touch with FEMA and update their contact information as it changes.
