WASHINGTON -- "Today, FEMA granted Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced’s request for an extension to fixed cost estimates under the Section 428 Alternative Procedures for permanent work caused by Hurricane Maria. FEMA acknowledges that additional time is needed to prepare and agree to fixed cost estimates for these critical projects, and that a new deadline must be established.  Due to the unprecedented and devastating impacts of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, the federal government continues to provide historic levels of funding to Puerto Rico.

BATON ROUGE, La. — At the request of the state of Louisiana, Cameron and St. Landry parishes have been added to the August 27 major disaster declaration for preparations and damages related to Hurricane Barry. Two other parishes, Pointe Coupee and St. Martin parishes are now eligible for permanent work. These two parishes were previously designated for emergency work only.

AUSTIN, Texas — Hurricane Harvey flooded thousands of Texas homes in August 2017, but about 150 in Clear Lake City stayed dry because of an innovative collaboration between the local water authority and the community.

ATLANTA – It’s been one year since Hurricane Michael plowed across the Florida/Georgia state line as a Category 3 hurricane, toppling trees and powerlines all the way through the Carolinas.

In that year, Georgia’s recovery has moved forward with more than $65.2 million distributed through federal programs to aid individuals and businesses. An additional $50 million has been provided to reimburse local governments for response actions in advance of Hurricane Michael, for debris removal and to repair or replace critical infrastructure.

On Aug. 2, 2019, Federal disaster assistance was made available to the state of West Virginia to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides from June 29-30, 2019.

JACKSON, Miss. – If you have been displaced from your primary residence because of the storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes that hit Mississippi earlier this year, are uninsured or underinsured and have applied for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) you may be eligible to receive Temporary Housing Assistance.

Both homeowners and renters whose storm-damaged housing is in Clay, Humphreys, Issaquena, Lowndes, Monroe, Sharkey, Warren or Yazoo counties, may qualify.

DENVER – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded a $3.9 million grant to the State of Utah. The grant will go toward structural retrofitting for 215 homes along the Wasatch Fault in the Salt Lake City area.

The Fix the Bricks program is a hazard mitigation program designed to assist owners of unreinforced masonry dwellings, or URMs, with structural improvements to reduce the risk of injury due to structural collapse in an earthquake.

JACKSON, Miss. – The State of Mississippi/FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Columbus and Vicksburg have announced shorter Saturday hours. Beginning Oct. 12, the DRCs will open at 10 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. on Saturdays only.

In addition, both DRCs will be open for the federal Columbus Day holiday on Monday, Oct. 14, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

WASHINGTON — FEMA’s Ready Campaign and the Ad Council joined with Sony Pictures on their upcoming film “Zombieland: Double Tap” to promote the critical message of emergency preparedness.

A decade after the first film, “Zombieland,” the lead cast and original writers and director have reunited for “Zombieland: Double Tap.” As part of the sequel’s release, Sony Pictures developed a Public Service Advertisement with original film footage for the Ready Campaign.
