What to Expect During a FEMA Housing Inspection
AUSTIN, Texas – After applying for federal disaster assistance for damages incurred during Tropical Storm Imelda, qualified residents in Chambers, Harris, Jefferson, Liberty, Montgomery and Orange counties will receive a call from a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) housing inspector as the next step in the recovery process.
Community Rating System (CRS) Update
Flooding is the most common and costly disaster in the United States. Anywhere it can rain, it can flood. With 98% of counties in the entire United States having experienced a flood and just one inch of water causing up to $25,000 in damage, communities across the country must make tough decisions about protecting lives and property from flooding.

WASHINGTON — FEMA announced that federal emergency aid has been made available to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to supplement commonwealth and local response efforts to the emergency conditions in the area affected by Typhoon Bualoi beginning on October 20, 2019, and continuing.
Tuesday, Nov. 19 is Last Day to Apply for FEMA Disaster Assistance
JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi survivors of this year’s severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding have until Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019 to apply for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
FEMA disaster assistance may be available to homeowners and renters with storm- and flood-damaged property in Clay, Humphreys, Issaquena, Lowndes, Monroe, Sharkey, Warren and Yazoo counties.
Community Recovery Centers Change Hours of Operation
GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – All Puerto Rico Community Recovery Centers, or CRCs, will change their hours of operation beginning on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019.
All centers will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
FEMA Offers Free Rebuilding Tips at Lowe’s in Houston
AUSTIN, Texas – Disaster survivors impacted by Tropical Storm Imelda who are rebuilding and repairing their homes can visit Lowe’s in Houston, Monday, Oct. 21 through Saturday, Oct. 27 to get free hazard mitigation consultations from FEMA representatives.
FEMA flood mitigation specialists can answer questions about home repair, making disaster plans, putting together supply kits and the importance of flood insurance.
Disaster Recovery Centers Open in Harris, Jefferson, Chambers to Help Imelda Survivors
AUSTIN, Texas – Joint state/federal Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) and a Mobile DRC will be opening Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 in Harris, Jefferson, and Chambers County to help disaster survivors affected by Tropical Storm Imelda.
FEMA Issues Public Notice for 26 North Carolina Counties
DATELINE – A public notice has been posted to the FEMA and North Carolina Department of Public Safety websites describing available FEMA assistance and proposed FEMA-funded actions, including activities that may affect historic properties, threatened and endangered species, critical habitat, or wetlands and floodplains in North Carolina.
Puerto Rican Among 15 Newly Appointed FEMA National Advisory Council Members
GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – Today, FEMA Acting Administrator Pete Gaynor appointed 15 members to FEMA’s National Advisory Council (NAC). Among them is Dr. Carol Salas, Director of Puerto Rico University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities in San Juan.

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi’s two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will close permanently at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, but survivors will still be able to get the help they need online or on the phone.

St. Mary Parish Added to Louisiana Flooding Disaster Declaration
BATON ROUGE, La. — At the request of the state of Louisiana, St. Mary Parish has been added to the disaster declaration for flooding that occurred May 10 through July 24, 2019. FEMA’s Public Assistance funding will supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by the flooding.
