L.A. County Updates Flood Insurance Rate Map
Oakland, CA — North Los Angeles County (L.A. County) is updating its Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for 2020. Flood risk changes over time due to new building and development, weather patterns, levee classifications, and more. New FIRMs provide up-to-date flood risk information and tools that can be used to enhance local mitigation plans, and help local officials and residents make informed decisions about reducing flood risks and purchasing flood insurance. When new FIRMs are issued, changes in flood risk may require the mandatory purchase of flood insurance.
Florida Receives 90 percent Federal Cost-Share for Irma Recovery
ORLANDO, Fla. – At the request of Governor Ron DeSantis, President Donald Trump has approved a federal cost-share increase for Hurricane Irma recovery projects funded by FEMA’s Public Assistance grant program from 75 percent to 90 percent.

President Donald J. Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration for South Carolina
WASHINGTON – FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of South Carolina to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Dorian beginning on August 31 to September 6, 2019.
FEMA Extends Individual and Households Program Deadline Through Nov. 30
GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – As Puerto Rico continues to recover from hurricanes Irma and María, FEMA and the Commonwealth have agreed to approve a second extension for assistance under the agency’s Individual and Households program through Nov. 30, 2019.
FEMA Reimburses School Board of Bay County $4M for Hurricane Michael Expenses
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FEMA has approved $4,060,461 for the state of Florida to assist the School Board of Bay County with reimbursement for the costs of temporary facilities following Hurricane Michael under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA awards nearly $2 million for Galveston storm drain and pump station improvements
AUSTIN, Texas – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded nearly $2 million to the city of Galveston through the Texas Division of Emergency Management to fund Phase I of a new storm drain system located between 14th and 18th streets. The funds will help cover costs for permitting, engineering, design, environmental assessment and construction engineering services toward the development of this project.
FEMA Reimburses $1.7 Million to Callaway for Hurricane Michael Expenses
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FEMA has approved $1,766,258 for the state of Florida to assist the city of Callaway with reimbursement for the costs of debris removal following Hurricane Michael under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA funds will reimburse the city for the collection, reduction, disposal and site management of debris within Callaway following the October 2018 storm.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers Open in Warren and Lowndes Counties
JACKSON, Miss. – FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers will open Friday, September 27, in Warren and Lowndes counties to provide one-on-one assistance to Mississippians affected by the storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding which occurred from February 22 to March 29, 2019.
Recovery specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration and other state, federal and volunteer agencies will provide information on available services, explain assistance programs and help survivors complete or check the status of their applications.

Florida: Federal Hazard Mitigation Grants for Hurricane Irma Top $100 Million
ORLANDO, Fla. – More than $100 million in federal mitigation grants have been provided to Florida communities to reduce vulnerability and improve community resilience to natural disasters in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Florida Division of Emergency Management has approved $108,000,000 in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding as a result of Hurricane Irma in 2017. The key purpose of this grant program is to enact mitigation measures that reduce the risk of loss of life and property from future disasters.

President Donald J. Trump made the federal assistance available September 20, 2019 when he approved a Major Disaster Declaration request from the State of Mississippi to help with costs associated with the disaster.
