FEMA Continues its Reinsurance Program to Manage Future Flood Risk
WASHINGTON -- Continuing its risk management practice against future catastrophic flood losses, FEMA announced today its 2020 traditional reinsurance placement for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
FEMA and COR3 Obligate an Additional $20 Million for Recovery Work in Puerto Rico
Hanson County Disaster Recovery Center Extended to Jan. 4
SIOUX FALLS, SD — The Hanson County Disaster Recovery Center will now remain open until 6 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 4, 2020. It will not close on Saturday Dec. 28 as previously announced.
Those whose homes or businesses were affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from Sept. 9 - 26 can continue to get in-person help at the center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. All centers are closed on Sundays, and will be closed New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2020.
FEMA Awards Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection Nearly $38 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
Orlando, Fla. – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will receive a $37,823,720 grant to help defray the costs of cleaning up after Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $1,221,219 for the State of Florida to help the City of Jacksonville defray the costs of debris removal for Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA Awards Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority Nearly $2.2 Million to Repair Water Pipeline Protection System
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $2,173,192 for the State of Florida to help the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority defray the cost of repairing their water pipeline protection system damaged by Hurricane Irma. Funding is provided under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $1,092,576 for the State of Florida to help the Florida Department of Health defray administrative costs associated with Hurricane Irma recovery under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

Orlando, Fla. – FEMA has approved $2,134,201 for the State of Florida to help the South Florida Water Management District defray the costs of submerged debris removal for Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $1,453,181 for the State of Florida to help the Palm Beach County School District defray the costs of debris removal for Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA Awards Boca Raton More Than $2.6 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $2,618,046 for the State of Florida to help the City of Boca Raton defray the costs of cleaning up from Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.

Repair, Rebuilding Advice Available in Yankton
SIOUX FALLS, SD – FEMA mitigation specialists will visit Kopetsky’s Ace Hardware in Yankton to offer advice on how to repair and rebuild structures safer and stronger.
The specialists will be on hand Monday, Dec. 30 - Saturday, Jan. 4 (except Wednesday, Jan. 1) to answer questions and provide home improvement tips and information on building structures that are more hazard-resistant, with proven methods that can prevent or reduce damage from future disasters.
Holiday Closures Set for Disaster Recovery Centers
SIOUX FALLS, SD — Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in South Dakota will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24; Christmas Day, Dec. 25; and New Year’s Day, Jan.1, 2020. Except for the holiday closures, centers are open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice. The Hanson County center in Alexandria will end operations Saturday, Dec. 28.

FEMA and COR3 Obligate Nearly $7.5 million for Recovery Work in Puerto Rico
GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – FEMA and the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience, or COR3, have obligated nearly $7.5 million in additional funds for 78 projects related to the recovery and reconstruction of Puerto Rico. These funds were obligated between December 13 and December 19.
Youth: Apply Today for 2020 Preparedness Summer Camp in Alaska
BOTHELL, Wash. - FEMA Region 10 is calling on students ages 14 to 17 from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska to apply for our second annual Youth Preparedness Camp to be held this summer near Anchorage. The 40 teens selected to attend the all-expense-paid camp will come away with skills that could save lives in their homes and communities during a disaster – all while making new friends and having fun!

WASHINGTON – FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of New York to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding on Oct. 31, 2019 -- Nov. 1, 2019.
Understanding FEMA Assistance Decisions and Your Right to Appeal
SIOUX FALLS, SD—If you received a letter from FEMA saying you are not eligible for federal disaster assistance, you may wonder what happened. The letter will explain why the decision was made. Missing documentation and not enough damage to essential living space are among the most common reasons one can initially be found ineligible.
Examples of missing documentation may include an insurance settlement letter, proof of residence, proof of ownership of the damaged property or proof that the damaged property was your primary residence at the time of the disaster.
