DHS Announces Grant Allocations for Fiscal Year 2020 Preparedness Grant

WASHINGTON — As part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) ongoing efforts to support state, local, tribal, and territorial partners, Acting Secretary Chad F. Wolf today announced final allocations of $385 million for seven Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 DHS competitive preparedness grant programs.

BOSTON, Mass.-- Three months after federal disaster declarations for COVID-19, New England States and Tribes are slowly emerging from an unprecedented public health crisis.

In March, COVID-19 arrived with a devastating impact to the residents, businesses and the collective health of New England. Thousands were left suddenly unemployed, hospitals were overwhelmed with critically ill patients, and businesses were forced to close with little notice.

FEMA Urges Hawaii Residents to Prepare for Hurricane Season

HONOLULU, Hawaii — With hurricane season upon us, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) advise Hawaii residents to prepare now for hurricane-related storms and flooding.

The 2020 Central Pacific hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30. This year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted up to six tropical storms and hurricanes in the central Pacific Ocean. But remember, it only takes one storm to cause significant structural damage to your home or property.

FEMA Authorizes Fund To Help Fight Two Utah Fires

DENVER - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs for two Utah fires, the Knolls Fire burning in Utah County near Lake Mountain and the Canal Fire burning in Millard County.

FEMA Regional Administrator Lee dePalo approved the state’s request for a federal Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) after receiving the separate requests earlier today and determining that both fires threatened such destruction as would constitute a major disaster.

FEMA Awards Miami-Dade County More Than $1 Million to Retrofit Public Housing Site After Hurricane Irma

FEMA Obligates Millions to the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works

A total of over $28 million has been awarded to DTOP to replace damaged road signs after Hurricane María across the island

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – FEMA announced today an obligation of over $9.5 million to the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation and Public Works, or DTOP. These funds will be used to replace signs on 238 roads covering approximately 496 miles in the Aguadilla, Arecibo and San Juan regions.

Disaster Assistance for Earthquake Survivors Doesn’t Discriminate

Earthquakes don’t discriminate and neither does FEMA.

FEMA has a mission to ensure disaster assistance is made available to all people in the community. FEMA does not treat people differently because of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, English proficiency or economic status. That means reaching out to everyone.

Those protected classes of people are written into federal law as an equal rights statement of policy that guides FEMA’s approach to providing fully inclusive disaster recovery services.

One Week Remaining to Apply for FEMA Disaster Assistance in Umatilla County and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation

Salem, Oregon – June 23, 2020 - The deadline to register for FEMA disaster assistance is July 2, 2020. Residents of Umatilla County and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation who sustained uninsured damage from the flooding that occurred Feb. 5-9 are encouraged to register for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. It’s important to note that financial assistance from FEMA for flood loss/damage does not affect unemployment, Social Security or Medicaid benefits.

Including Your Pets in Disaster Preparedness

ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands – Pets are an important member of your household, remember to include them in your hurricane preparedness plans.

Here are some tips on disaster preparedness for pet owners:

  • If a pet gets lost, its tag is its ticket home. Make sure your pet’s tags are up-to-date and fastened to its collar. If possible, attach the address and/or phone number of another contact in case you can’t be reached. A waterproof pouch containing identification information can be attached to the collar.
