Hurricane Irma Flood Insurance Payments Top $1 Billion in Florida
Officials Tout NFIP Coverage as First Line of Defense Against Flooding
Orlando, Fla. – Nearly two years after Hurricane Irma struck Florida, FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has paid more than $1 billion towards 21,949 flood insurance claims by policyholders whose properties were flooded during the historic storm.
FEMA Awards Southwest Ranches More Than $2 Million for Hurricane Irma Expenses
ORLANDO, Fla. – FEMA has approved $2,035,101 for the State of Florida to help the Town of Southwest Ranches defray the costs of debris removal for Hurricane Irma under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
FEMA funds will reimburse the town for the collection, reduction, disposal and site management of debris within Southwest Ranches between Sept. 18 and Oct. 17, 2017 following the September 2017 storm. During that time period, the town’s contractor gathered, hauled away and disposed of 115,110 cubic yards of vegetative debris from public rights of way.

Guam-Based FEMA Team Provides Local Support Before, During, and After Disasters
Oakland, CA – This year, Guam welcomed two employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to work directly with Guam Homeland Security – Office of Civil Defense (GHS-OCD). The FEMA staff form one of 25 FEMA Integration Teams (FIT) that work in territorial and state emergency management offices to address needs and challenges. The structure of each FIT is determined through discussions between FEMA and individual states or territories and varies according to local needs.

More than $6 Million Approved for Wilmington Area
DURHAM, N.C. – FEMA and the state of North Carolina are announcing more than $6 million to reimburse local governments and a public utility authority for Hurricane Florence-related expenses.
