FEMA Grants $1.2M to CEA to Increase Earthquake Protection

Oakland, Calif. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted $1.2 million to the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) for its Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) program. The grant will subsidize CEA earthquake retrofits for 391 at-risk structures likely to shake from their foundations in the event of an earthquake.

FEMA and COR3 Obligate Nearly $59 million for Recovery Work in Puerto Rico in the Last Two Weeks

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – FEMA and the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience, or COR3, have obligated nearly $59 million in additional funds for 60 projects related to the recovery and reconstruction of Puerto Rico. FEMA Offers Free Rebuilding Tips at Local Home Improvement Stores

AUSTIN, Texas – Disaster survivors affected by the severe storms and floods from Tropical Storm Imelda, can visit local home improvement stores in Katy, Houston and Spring from Monday, Dec. 9, to Saturday, Dec. 14, for rebuilding tips from mitigation experts. Mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be on hand to answer questions about home repair, making disaster plans, putting together supply kits and the importance of flood insurance.

FEMA Can Assist With Furnaces, Wells and Septic Systems

SIOUX FALLS, SD – As the temperatures drop, the furnace becomes the most important appliance in the home.  South Dakotans who had a furnace damaged by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding between September 9 - 26, should contact FEMA, even if they have already made repairs or purchased a replacement.  FEMA can also help with wells and septic systems impacted by the disaster.

Disaster Recovery Centers Coming to Six South Dakota Counties

FEMA awards $8.9 million to Brazoria County to elevate 70 flood-prone homes

AUSTIN, Texas – FEMA has awarded more than $8.9 million to Brazoria County, through the Texas Division of Emergency Management, to fund the elevation of 70 flood-prone homes as part of FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP).

 

Federal grant funding will provide 75% of the cost of this project, and a local match will provide 25%.

Best Practice: Texans living in low-risk flood areas get flooded, Flood insurance helps them recover, pay losses

AUSTIN, Texas – More than 70 percent of Texas homes that flooded in Tropical Storm Imelda were in areas at low risk for flooding. And most of those with flood damage from Imelda did not have flood insurance. Insurance policies for those who live in low-risk areas are inexpensive and can make a huge difference if, and when flooding occurs.

Ventura County Burn Areas Face Greater Flood Risk
