Survivor Assistance Available at Several Locations

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The state of Arkansas, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration have added four new sites that offer face-to-face help for residents affected by the March 14-15 and April 2-22 severe storms, tornadoes and flooding. Hours are also extended at some sites.

Homeowners and renters in the impacted counties may be eligible for FEMA disaster assistance for losses not covered by insurance. Specialists are available to help you apply for FEMA assistance, review your existing application and submit documents needed to move your application forward.

The new locations and extended hours include:

CRITTENDEN COUNTY

Survivors in Greene, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, Sharp and Stone counties may apply for federal assistance if they had damage in the March storms. Similarly, those who were affected by the April storms, tornadoes and flooding in Clark, Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Desha, Fulton, Hot Spring, Jackson, Miller, Ouachita, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Sharp, St. Francis and White counties may also apply. Survivors affected by both the March and April storms should file a separate claim for each.

Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Garrard County

FRANKFORT, Ky. –A Disaster Recovery Center has opened in Garrard County to offer in-person support to Kentucky uninsured and underinsured survivors who experienced loss as the result of the April severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides. The new Disaster Recovery Center in Garrard County is located at:

 

Forks of Dix River Baptist Church, 5764 Lexington Road, Lancaster, KY 40444 

Working hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Saturday and 1 - 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Sunday.

Disaster Recovery Centers are one-stop shops where you can get information and advice on available assistance from state, federal and community organizations. You can get help to apply for FEMA assistance, learn the status of your FEMA application, understand the letters you get from FEMA and get referrals to agencies that may offer other assistance. The U.S. Small Business Administration representatives and resources from the Commonwealth are also available at the Disaster Recovery Centers to assist you.

FEMA is encouraging Kentuckians affected by the April storms to apply for federal disaster assistance as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is June 25.

You can visit any Disaster Recovery Center to get in-person assistance. No appointment is needed. To find all other center locations, including those in other states, go to fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and a Zip Code to 43362. 

You don’t have to visit a center to apply for FEMA assistance. There are other ways to apply: online at DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA App for mobile devices or call 800-621-3362. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA the number for that service.

When you apply, you will need to provide:
  • A current phone number where you can be contacted.
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
  • Your Social Security Number.
  • A general list of damage and losses.
  • Banking information if you choose direct deposit.
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

AUSTIN – If you live in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy counties and were affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred March 26-28, you may be eligible for FEMA assistance for losses not covered by insurance.

How To Apply for FEMA Assistance
  • Visit a Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, go online to: DRC Locator, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Ex: DRC 78552).
  • Apply online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • Download the FEMA App for mobile devices.
  • Call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. CT. Help is available in most languages. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.

Home Inspections

Within 10 days after applying, a FEMA inspector may contact you to schedule an appointment. To be prepared for the visit, please have the following available:

  • Photo identification.
  • Proof that you owned or occupied the house at the time of the disaster.
  • Receipts for home repairs or replacement of damaged items.
  • Pictures of any damage that may now be repaired.

Your Determination Letter

Within 10 days after the inspector’s visit, you will receive a letter in the mail or via email explaining your application status and how to respond. This is your determination letter. The letter will explain whether FEMA has approved you for assistance, how much, and how the assistance must be used.

If your letter says you’re not approved, it does not mean you’re denied. You may need to submit additional information or supporting documentation. Beware of Fraud

Texas survivors should be aware that con artists and criminals may try to obtain money or steal personal information through fraud or identity theft. In some cases, thieves try to apply for FEMA assistance using names, addresses and Social Security numbers they have stolen from survivors.

  • Don't believe anyone who promises a disaster grant in return for payment.
  • Don't give your banking information to a person claiming to be a FEMA housing inspector. FEMA inspectors are never authorized to collect your personal financial information.
  • If you believe you are the victim of fraud or a scam, report it immediately to your local police or sheriff's department or contact the Office of the Texas Attorney General Consumer Protection Hotline at 800-621-0508.

North Carolina Continues to Receive Historically High Emergency Assistance Under President Trump

President Trump turbocharged the emergency aid process to provide a 100% federal cost share in North Carolina for Public Assistance from the declaration date of September 29, 2024, to March 24, 2025.

WASHINGTON -- In light of false reporting and charges from politicians, FEMA is setting the record straight. North Carolina received one of the longest 100% cost share periods in FEMA’s history — 6 full months of full federal funding for debris removal and emergency protective measures. Today, the state is still receiving a 90% cost share. Due to the severity of the disaster with Hurricane Helene, exacerbated by the previous administrations’ mismanagement and neglect, FEMA is currently providing North Carolina a 90% federal cost share, far exceeding the normal 75% and the same amount the state of North Carolina requested on December 6, 2024.   

Through FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which provides funds for state and local governments’ response and recovery work, the state received more than $484 million at a 100% federal cost share for 180 days, funding projects for road repair, debris removal, critical infrastructure repair and more. Since January 20, 2025, more than $172 million in Public Assistance reimbursements has been approved to support the recovery efforts in North Carolina.

In addition to the higher threshold federal cost share, federal emergency management support to North Carolina has accelerated under President Trump’s administration.

  • More than 785 staff remain deployed on North Carolina, assisting with recertification of Direct Housing and Temporary Housing Units, supporting 2,700 Public Assistance projects, coordinating debris removal and survivor casework. Over 45 of FEMA’s North Carolina staff are locally hired, joining the agency after Helene and bringing valuable local knowledge to the recovery efforts.
  • More than $455 million has been approved for North Carolina survivors to help pay for food, medicine, housing assistance and home repairs.
  • More than $22.4 million has been provided to nearly 7,900 North Carolinians to repair or replace private roads and bridges damaged by Helene.
  • Nearly 12.8 million cubic yards (CY) of debris have been removed from waterways, roads, homes and business, with more than 4.7 million CY removed since President Trump took office.

When you apply for assistance, have this information readily available:

  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.
  • A current phone number where you can be contacted.
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.

  • A general list of damage and losses.
  • Banking information for direct deposit if available.

Remember to keep receipts from all purchases related to cleanup and repair. 

Within 10 days after registering, a FEMA Inspector will contact you to schedule an appointment. To be prepared for the visit, please have the following documents available to support the inspection:

  • Driver’s License (State ID) for applicant and co-applicant.
  • Proof of Ownership and Occupancy.
  • Receipts of any items purchased prior to inspection.
  • Pictures of any damages that may now be repaired or cleared off the property.

During the appointment, FEMA inspectors will:

  • Wear official FEMA ID badges.
  • Confirm your disaster registration number.
  • Review structural and personal property damages.

FEMA inspectors will not:

  • Determine eligibility.
  • Take any money or ask for credit card information.
  • Take the place of an insurance inspection.

Make sure to keep your scheduled appointment. Appointments will take 10-20 minutes and you or someone you choose to represent you must be present. Contact your insurance agent if you have insurance.

Within 10 days after the inspector’s visit, you will be sent a decision letter. If eligible for assistance, you will receive an electronic funds transfer. A follow-up letter will explain how the money can be used.

Digital Disbursement

FEMA understands that everyone may not have an active bank account. In order to provide additional options for survivors, FEMA is partnering with the U.S. Treasury to provide new options for survivors to receive their disaster assistance money through digital payments.

Eligible survivors will be able to receive their assistance funds through the following payment methods: 

  • A direct deposit into their bank account
  • A credit to their Visa or Mastercard debit card
  • A U.S. Debit Card they use to receive other federal benefits
  • An electronic check sent to a pre-paid debit card
  • PayPal Account

Digital payments can provide money to eligible survivors on the same day in most cases. 

FEMA and the U.S. Treasury will continue partnering with the private sector to add new ways for survivors to receive digital payments that comply with federal privacy, security and financial standards.

AUSTIN – In coordination with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), FEMA and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) staff will open three additional Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) on May 30 to offer face-to-face help to residents of the four South Texas counties affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred March 26-28.

Homeowners and renters in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy counties may be eligible for FEMA assistance for losses not covered by insurance.

FEMA and SBA will support state-led recovery efforts at the recovery centers. Staff can help survivors apply for federal assistance. They can also identify potential needs and connect survivors with local, state and federal agencies, as well as nonprofits and community groups. The new DRCs join the four already open in the affected counties. 

All seven centers will be open Friday, May 30, and will remain open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

Residents can visit any open center to meet with representatives of FEMA, the state of Texas and the SBA. No appointment is needed. Additional locations may be added.

All centers are accessible to people with disabilities or access and functional needs and are equipped with assistive technology. If you need a reasonable accommodation or sign language interpreter, please call 833-285-7448 (press 2 for Spanish).

FEMA staff are easily recognizable by their official photo identification (ID). If you meet people offering assistance, first ask to see their ID before giving them your personal information. They may have FEMA clothing, but that can be easily imitated. 

FEMA staff can help residents in several ways including:

  • Checking the status of an application already in the system and making minor changes to applications.
  • Contacting faith-based organizations, community groups, private sector businesses and public libraries that may have the capability to distribute disaster-related information to residents in the impacted counties.
  • Identifying organizations providing disaster-related services and/or resources to the public for long-term recovery.
  • Gathering information about impacts to communities.
  • Providing flyers explaining how to apply for disaster assistance.

Survivors with homeowners or renters insurance should first file a claim with their insurance company as soon as possible. If your policy does not cover all your damage expenses, you may then be eligible for federal assistance.

Medical, Dental and Funeral Assistance for Survivors of May Tornadoes in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. – If you sustained injury, illness or death of a loved one due to the severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes from May 16-17 in Kentucky, you may be eligible for medical, dental and/or funeral assistance from FEMA.

Medical/dental assistance can help cover uninsured expenses for medical care related to disaster-caused injury or illness. This funding can also be used to help replace medical/dental equipment, breastfeeding equipment or prescribed medicine damaged or lost due to the severe storms and tornadoes.

If you had funeral or burial expenses because of the severe storms and tornadoes of May 16-17, funeral assistance may be available from FEMA.

FEMA’s Other Needs Assistance (ONA) program provides assistance with certain eligible disaster-caused funeral expenses. 

Eligible expenses may include cost of transfer of remains, casket or urn, funeral services, death certificates, burial plot, cremation, interment, cost of reinterment if disinterment is caused by the disaster, and/or occurs in a family cemetery on private property. 

Eligibility Criteria for Funeral Assistance

To verify eligibility, FEMA will need:

  • An official state-issued death certificate or a signed statement from a medical examiner, coroner or other certifier stating that the death was directly or indirectly related to the disaster.
  • Evidence of an unmet funeral expense – a receipt or verifiable estimates for funeral expenses that indicate the applicant incurred, or will incur, eligible interment, reinterment or funeral expenses.

Confirmation that funeral expenses have not been paid using other resources. By law, FEMA cannot provide you a grant when any other source – Social Security or Veterans Affairs benefits – has covered expenses for the same disaster-related need.

How To Apply for FEMA Assistance

To request medical/dental or funeral assistance you must first apply with FEMA. Survivors in Caldwell, Laurel, Pulaski, Russell, Trigg and Union counties who have disaster-caused damage or loss from the May tornadoes can apply for federal disaster assistance under the major disaster declaration DR-4875 in several ways: 

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • Visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, visit fema.gov/DRC, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Example: “DRC 29169”).
  • Use the FEMA mobile app.
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. It is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service. 

FEMA works with every household on a case-by-case basis.

LITTLE ROCK– The state of Arkansas, FEMA and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will offer face-to-face help at four additional sites this week for residents affected by the March 14-15 and April 2-22 severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.

Homeowners and renters in Greene, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, Sharp and Stone counties and impacted by the March 14-15 storms and tornadoes and may be eligible for FEMA assistance for losses not covered by insurance.

Assistance is also available to eligible residents living in Clark, Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Desha, Fulton, Hot Spring, Jackson, Miller, Ouachita, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Sharp, St. Francis and White counties impacted by the April 2-22 severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.

AUSTIN – In coordination with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), FEMA and U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) staff will open four Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) on May 28 to offer face-to-face help to residents of the four South Texas counties affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred March 26-28.

Homeowners and renters in Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr and Willacy counties may be eligible for FEMA assistance for losses not covered by insurance.

FEMA and SBA will support state-led recovery efforts at the recovery centers. Staff can help survivors apply for federal assistance. They can also identify potential needs and connect survivors with local, state and federal agencies, as well as nonprofits and community groups. 

The DRCs will open Wednesday, May 28 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at these locations:

FEMA staff are easily recognizable by their official photo identification (ID). If you meet people offering assistance, first ask to see their ID before giving them your personal information. They may have FEMA clothing, but that can be easily imitated. 

FEMA staff can help residents in several ways including:

  • Checking the status of an application already in the system and making minor changes to applications.
  • Contacting faith-based organizations, community groups, private sector businesses and public libraries that may have the capability to distribute disaster-related information to residents in the impacted counties.
  • Identifying organizations providing disaster-related services and/or resources to the public for long-term recovery.
  • Gathering information about impacts to communities.
  • Providing flyers explaining how to apply for disaster assistance.

Survivors with homeowners or renters’ insurance, should first file a claim with their insurance company as soon as possible. If your policy does not cover all your damage expenses, you may then be eligible for federal assistance.

SBA’s Customer Service Representatives are available at the centers to answer questions, assist business owners complete their disaster loan application, accept documents, and provide updates on an application’s status.

LITTLE ROCK – After Arkansas residents apply for FEMA assistance, a home inspection may be necessary to verify damage from the March 14-15 or April 2-22 severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.

Homeowners and renters in Greene, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, Sharp and Stone counties can apply for FEMA assistance for losses not covered by insurance for the March storms.

Homeowners and renters in Clark, Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Desha, Fulton, Hot Spring, Jackson, Miller, Ouachita, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Sharp, St. Francis and White counties can apply for the April storms.

Within 10 days after applying, a FEMA inspector may contact applicants to schedule an appointment. The call or text to schedule an inspection will probably come from an out-of-state phone number.

Information gathered during the inspection is one of several criteria used by FEMA to determine if applicants are approved for federal assistance. If survivors have already made repairs or replaced damaged items, although not required, it may be helpful to have pictures of the damage and receipts for repair or replacement. Applicants should also have their insurance policy available.

The housing inspector will consider:

  • The structural soundness of the home, both inside and outside.
  • Whether the electrical, gas, heat, plumbing and sewer/septic systems are all in working order.
  • Whether the home is safe to live in and can be entered and exited safely.

All FEMA representatives carry photo identification. Inspectors will never ask for or accept money. Their service is free. 

A home inspection may take up to 45 minutes to complete. After the inspection, applicants should allow seven to 10 days for processing. Financial assistance after the March 14-15 severe storms and tornadoes is available to eligible residents of Greene, Hot Spring, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence, Randolph, Sharp and Stone counties. 

For the April 2-22 severe storms, tornadoes and flooding, assistance is available to eligible residents of Clark, Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Desha, Fulton, Hot Spring, Jackson, Miller, Ouachita, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Sharp, St. Francis and White counties

Arkansans in Hot Spring, Jackson, Randolph and Sharp counties who applied for FEMA assistance after the March 14-15 storms, and who had additional damage or losses from the April 2-22 storms can make an additional application for the April severe weather.

Disaster assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster. By law, FEMA cannot pay for losses covered by homeowners or renters’ insurance.

Today is the Last Day To Apply for FEMA Assistance Following February Severe Storms and Flooding

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Homeowners and renters in Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Leslie, 

Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Simpson and Woodford counties who experienced damage or losses caused by 

the February severe storms and floods have until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time today to apply for federal disaster assistance. The deadline to apply for federal assistance is Today

 

Survivors of the April storms still have until June 25 to Apply.

How To Apply for FEMA Assistance

There are several ways to apply for FEMA assistance:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • Visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, visit fema.gov/DRC, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Example: “DRC 29169”).
  • Use the FEMA mobile app.
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. It is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
  • FEMA works with every household on a case-by-case basis.

FEMA representatives can explain available assistance programs, how to apply to FEMA, and help connect survivors with resources for their recovery needs.

When you apply, you will need to provide:

  • A current phone number where you can be contacted.
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
  • Your Social Security Number.
  • A general list of damage and losses.
  • Banking information if you choose direct deposit.
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

Survivors should keep their contact information updated with FEMA as the agency may need to call to schedule a 

home inspection or get additional information.

 

Disaster assistance is not a substitute for insurance and is not intended to compensate for all losses caused by a 

disaster. The assistance is intended to meet basic needs and supplement disaster recovery efforts.

 

Homeowners and renters in Woodford County may be eligible for federal assistance, if you had property damage or loss in Woodford County from the February severe incident, and then again from the April severe incident, you would need to complete two separate disaster assistance applications.

Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Pulaski County

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A Disaster Recovery Center has opened in Pulaski County to offer in-person support to Kentucky survivors who experienced loss as the result of the severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes from May 16-17, 2025. The new Disaster Recovery Center in Pulaski County is located at:

 

Center for Rural Development, 2292 S. Highway 27 #300, Somerset, KY 42501 

Working hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Saturday and 1 - 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Sunday.

Disaster Recovery Centers are one-stop shops where you can get information and advice on available assistance from state, federal and community organizations. You can get help to apply for FEMA assistance, learn the status of your FEMA application, understand the letters you get from FEMA and get referrals to agencies that may offer other assistance. The U.S. Small Business Administration representatives and resources from the Commonwealth are also available at the Disaster Recovery Centers to assist you.

FEMA is encouraging Kentuckians affected by the May tornadoes to apply for federal disaster assistance as soon as possible. 

You can visit any Disaster Recovery Center to get in-person assistance. No appointment is needed. To find all other center locations, including those in other states, go to fema.gov/drc or text “DRC” and a Zip Code to 43362. 

You don’t have to visit a center to apply for FEMA assistance. There are other ways to apply: online at DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA App for mobile devices or call 800-621-3362. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA the number for that service.
