Kentucky Counties Affected by April Flooding and May Tornadoes Now Eligible for FEMA Public Assistance

FRANKFORT, Ky.– Kentucky counties affected by the April severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides, and mudslides and flooding and the May 16-17 tornadoes are now eligible to apply for FEMA Public Assistance. 

Under FEMA’s Public Assistance Program, disaster-stricken communities receive federal grants to help cover the eligible costs of debris removal, life-saving emergency protective work and repair or replacement of public infrastructure.

Counties now designated for Public Assistance as a result of the April floods include:

  • Allen, Anderson, Ballard, Barren, Bracken, Breathitt, Breckinridge, Bullitt, Butler, Caldwell, Calloway, Campbell, Carlisle, Carroll, Carter, Casey, Christian, Clark, Clay, Crittenden, Daviess, Edmonson,  Elliott, Estill, Floyd, Franklin, Fulton, Gallatin, Garrard, Graves, Grayson, Green, Greenup, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Hart,  Henderson, Hickman, Hopkins, Jackson, Jefferson, Jessamine, Johnson,  Kenton, Larue, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Lewis, Lincoln, Livingston, Logan, Lyon, Madison, Magoffin, Marion, Marshall, Martin, McCracken, McLean, Meade, Mercer, Metcalfe, Monroe, Morgan, Muhlenberg, Nelson, Nicholas, Ohio, Oldham, Owen, Owsley, Pendleton, Perry, Powell, Robertson, Rockcastle, Simpson, Spencer, Taylor, Todd, Trigg, Trimble, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wolfe and Woodford.

Counties affected by the May tornadoes that have been designated for Public Assistance include:

  • Allen, Adair, Barren, Breathitt, Butler, Caldwell, Carlisle, Casey, Christian, Clay, Clinton, Crittenden, Cumberland, Estill, Jackson, Knott, Knox, LaRue, Laurel, Lee, Livingston, Logan, Lyon, Marshall, McCreary, Menifee, Metcalfe, Owsley, Powell, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Spencer, Todd, Trigg, Union, Warren, Wayne and Whitley.

Commonwealth, local governments and certain private-non-profit organizations, including houses of worship, in these designated counties are eligible for funds to reimburse 75 percent of the eligible cost for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. Learn more about the Public Assistance program.

Clinton County Residents Invited to Review Flood Maps

CHICAGO - Preliminary flood risk information and updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) are available for review by residents and business owners in Clinton County and Incorporated Areas. Property owners are encouraged to review the latest information to learn about local flood risks and potential future flood insurance requirements. Community stakeholders can identify any concerns or questions about the information provided and participate in the 90-day appeal and comment period.

The 90-day appeal period will begin on or around July 30, 2025. The preliminary maps and changes from current maps may be viewed online at the FEMA Flood Map Changes Viewer: http://msc.fema.gov/fmcv

The updated maps were produced in coordination with local, state and FEMA officials. Significant community review of the maps has already taken place, but before the maps become final, community stakeholders can identify any concerns or questions about the information provided and submit appeals or comments. Contact your local floodplain administrator to do so. 

  • Appeals must include technical information, such as hydraulic or hydrologic data, to support the claim.
  • Appeals cannot be based on the effects of proposed projects or projects started after the study is in progress.
  • If property owners see incorrect information that does not change the flood hazard information, such as a missing or misspelled road name in the Special Flood Hazard Area or an incorrect corporate boundary, they can submit a written comment. 

The next step in the mapping process is the resolution of all comments and appeals. Once they are resolved, FEMA will notify communities of the effective date of the final maps.

New Mexicans Can Now Apply for Possible FEMA Assistance After Severe Storms, Flooding and Landslides

SANTA FE, New Mexico – FEMA is supporting state and local recovery efforts for New Mexicans in Lincoln County who sustained damage from the severe storms, flooding and landslides that began June 23, 2025, and continuing.

Financial assistance is available to eligible homeowners and renters in Lincoln County. FEMA may be able to help with serious needs, displacement, basic home repair costs, personal property loss or other disaster-caused needs.

Residents with homeowners, renters or flood insurance should file a claim first. By law, FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If your policy does not cover all your damage expenses, you may then be eligible for federal assistance.

How to Apply for FEMA Assistance

Homeowners and renters who have disaster-caused damage or loss can apply for Individual Assistance in several ways:

  • The fastest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Download the FEMA App for mobile devices
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. MT.
    • If you use a relay service, captioned telephone or other service, you can give FEMA your number for that service. Helpline specialists speak many languages. Press 2 for Spanish.

When you apply for assistance, have this information readily available:

  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name
  • A current phone number where you can be contacted
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying
  • Your Social Security number, if available
  • A general list of damage and losses
  • Banking information for direct deposit

Remember to keep receipts from all purchases related to cleanup and repair.

Assistance from FEMA can include grants for home repairs, replacement of uninsured personal property and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans are available to businesses of all sizes, nonprofits, homeowners and renters. Like FEMA, SBA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance.

Additional counties may be added later if warranted by the results of damage assessments.

How To Apply for FEMA Assistance

Visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, visit fema.gov/DRC, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Example: “DRC 29169”).

Use the FEMA mobile app.

Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service. 

FEMA works with every household on a case-by-case basis.

FEMA representatives can explain available assistance programs, how to apply to FEMA, and help connect survivors with resources for their recovery needs.

When you apply, you will need to provide:

A current phone number where you can be contacted.

Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.

Your Social Security Number. 

A general list of damage and losses.

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky homeowners and renters who suffered uninsured damage to their property from the May 16-17 tornadoes now have until August 22 to apply for FEMA assistance. Eligible counties are Caldwell, Laurel, Pulaski, Russell, Trigg and Union.

Travis County Disaster Outreach Center to Extend Days of Operation

AUSTIN, Texas – The Travis County FEMA Disaster Outreach Center will remain open until Friday, July 25, to help survivors of the July storms and flooding. 

The center, which opened July 16 and has been serving survivors daily, is located at:

Survivors can get face time with representatives from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration to answer their questions, help with their disaster applications and review their case file. Renters, Students, Self-Employed Can Apply for FEMA Assistance

Tennessee renters, students and self-employed in Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Dyer, Hardeman, McNairy, Montgomery, Obion and Wilson counties may be eligible for money to help with personal losses from the April 2-24 severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding. The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is Aug. 19.

Money is available to help with rent or temporary housing costs like a hotel. Renters, students and self-employed may also be eligible for money for uninsured essential personal property losses and other disaster-related expenses including:

  • Replacement or repair of necessary personal property, such as clothing, textbooks, school supplies, and furniture and appliances a renter owns. FEMA does not cover furniture or appliances provided by the landlord.
  • Replacement or repair of tools and other job-related equipment required for self-employment.
  • Replacement or repair of a primary vehicle.
  • Disaster-related uninsured medical, dental, childcare, moving and storage expenses.

ST. LOUIS – If you have applied for help after recent disasters in Missouri, stay in touch with FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration about your on-going recovery needs.

Helpful Tips: 

  • Read your letter from FEMA carefully.
  • Provide contractor estimates for disaster-related repairs.
    • Must include the contractor’s contact information.
  • When contacting FEMA, provide your nine-digit FEMA registration ID number.
  • Keep receipts for disaster-related purchases (items to make repairs to home, hotel receipts, etc.).
  • Contact FEMA if your current housing situation, phone number, or mailing address have changed.

If you do not qualify for FEMA assistance, or to supplement FEMA assistance, a disaster loan from the SBA may be available. SBA’s Business Recovery Centers and Disaster Loan Outreach Centers serve as a one-stop shop for disaster assistance. These centers provide in-person support with SBA disaster loan applications, help applicants check their loan status, and offer guidance on funds available to businesses, nonprofits, homeowners, and renters impacted in a declared disaster area. SBA representatives are also in all Disaster Recovery Centers.

The deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance is July 22, 2025.

Important Deadline – May 16 Missouri Disaster

Homeowners and renters affected by the May 16 disaster in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and Scott County may also be eligible. The deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance is August 11, 2025.

You can still ask for additional assistance, as long as you submit an initial application before the deadline.

As FEMA assistance applications are processed, individual situations can change. It is important that you keep FEMA informed of your current contact information. This will ensure any benefits you are eligible for reach you without delay.

The fastest way to provide missing or new information is to create an account at DisasterAssistance.gov and upload documents there. If you do not have internet access or need services not available on FEMA’s website, call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.

If more information is needed to process your application, FEMA may call you. These calls may come from unfamiliar phone numbers. It’s important that you answer these calls. FEMA will ask to verify your identity by stating your damaged dwelling address, the last four digits of your social security number, and possibly your registration number. To avoid fraud and scams, verify callers are from FEMA before sharing any information.

Tennesseans in Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Dyer, Hardeman, McNairy, Montgomery, Obion and Wilson counties who experienced damage from the April 2-24 severe storms have until Aug. 19 to apply for FEMA assistance.

Public Briefing on Preparations for Holtec Palisades Nuclear Power Plant Restart

CHICAGO – FEMA, state and local officials will conduct a public briefing August 5, 2025, for residents to learn about emergency public health and safety plans and preparations for the restart of the Holtec Palisades, LLC nuclear power plant.

Officials from the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division and county emergency management offices in the vicinity of the plant will provide an overview of preparedness plans and how they would function in the event of an emergency. FEMA officials will outline the review and approval process of those plans and provide a brief overview of the July 29 preparedness exercise. The exercise—part of FEMA’s Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program—assesses the ability of the state of Michigan, Van Buren County, Allegan County and Berrien County to respond to an emergency at the Holtec Palisades nuclear power plant.

FEMA Authorizes Funds to Fight Burdoin Fire in Washington

BOTHELL, Wash. -  The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs for the Burdoin Fire burning in Klickitat County, Washington, and on land of the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation. 

The state of Washington’s request for a declaration under FEMA’s Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) program was approved by FEMA Region 10 Acting Administrator Vincent J. Maykovich on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 5:15 p.m. PT. He determined that the Burdoin Fire threatened to cause such destruction as would constitute a major disaster. This is the first FMAG declaration in 2025 to help fight Washington wildfires. 

At the time of the state’s request, the wildfire threatened homes in and around the communities of White Salmon, Bingen, Straight Point and Lyle. The fire also threatened roadways, railways and local powerlines. It was also impacting the Columbia River Scenic Area and turtle habitat in the area. 

FMAGs make funding available to pay up to 75 percent of a state’s eligible firefighting costs for fires that threaten to become major disasters. Eligible items can include expenses for field camps, equipment use, materials, supplies and mobilization and demobilization activities attributed to fighting the fire. These grants do not provide assistance to individual home or business owners and do not cover other infrastructure damage caused by the fire.

Less Than One Week Left to Apply for FEMA Assistance Following April Flooding

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky homeowners and renters who experienced damage or loss caused by the April severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides have less than one week left to apply for federal disaster assistance. The deadline to apply is July 25.

How To Apply for FEMA Assistance

There are several ways to apply for FEMA assistance:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov.
  • Visit any Disaster Recovery Center. To find a center close to you, visit fema.gov/DRC, or text DRC along with your Zip Code to 43362 (Example: “DRC 29169”).
  • Use the FEMA mobile app.
  • Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. Help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
  • FEMA works with every household on a case-by-case basis.

FEMA representatives can explain available assistance programs, how to apply to FEMA, and help connect survivors with resources for their recovery needs.

When you apply, you will need to provide:
  • A current phone number where you can be contacted.
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
  • Your Social Security Number.
  • A general list of damage and losses.
  • Banking information if you choose direct deposit.  
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

Survivors should keep their contact information updated with FEMA as the agency may need to call to schedule a 

home inspection or get additional information.

 

Disaster assistance is not a substitute for insurance and is not intended to compensate for all losses caused by a 

disaster. The assistance is intended to meet basic needs and supplement disaster recovery efforts.
